Global Investment Firm Partners with Re:Dish to Overcome In-House Challenges in Adopting Reusables

Introduction

A leading investment management firm set out to reduce cafeteria waste by adopting reusable dishware. Initially managing the program in-house, the firm soon discovered the logistical complexities of washing, tracking, and maintaining inventory. Seeking a partner to streamline operations and deliver measurable impact, Bridgewater turned to Re:Dish for support.

Challenge

While switching to reusables seemed straightforward, the firm soon found that managing the program in-house presented significant challenges. Washing and restocking reusable products strained internal resources, and tracking inventory or environmental impact proved difficult without dedicated systems. To make the program sustainable long-term, the firm needed an expert partner to take over these operational burdens.

Solution

Re:Dish provided a step-by-step solution that evolved with the firm’s needs:

Outsourced Washing Services:

Initially, Re:Dish supported the firm by washing and returning their owned reusable products, reducing immediate logistical pressure. However, the firm wanted to better understand the waste diversion, carbon and water savings of its sustainability efforts. And managing inventory and ensuring a seamless flow of products remained a challenge for the internal team without internal data systems.

Transition to Re:Dish's Full-Service Reusable Dishware Program:

Recognizing the need for a more comprehensive solution, the firm partnered with Re:Dish to implement the full-service Reusable Dishware Program, which:

  • Supplied reusable dishware according to the firm’s food service needs.

  • Took over all washing, restocking, and inventory tracking to free up internal resources.

  • Delivered real-time impact metrics on actual usage through Re:Dish’s proprietary software, DishTrack, including waste diversion, greenhouse gas reductions, and water savings based on SKU-level life-cycle assessments (LCA).

Results

Since adopting the Re:Dish Reusable Dishware Program:

  • Over 10,000 lbs of waste diverted

  • 26,000 kg of CO2e not emitted

  • 27,000 gallons of water saved
